Achieving a New Level
In April 2024, SM Lab showcased its products at the 6th International Conference on Computer Science and Technologies in Education. The conference was held on April 19-21 in Xian, China.
Tatyana Kravchenko and Vladislava Guza, senior e-course developers from the Department for Multilingual Systems and Services, applied to the conference and, after passing a competitive procedure, were invited as speakers.
Tatyana says: "We were speaking on the same platform with very famous edtech research professionals: Prof. Rhona Sharpe, University of Oxford (UK), Prof. Louise Starkey, Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), and Prof. Irina Lyublinskaya, Columbia University (USA). The conference also hosted speakers from China, Canada, Singapore, Sweden, and the Philippines. We were the only speakers from Russia".
The Conference attendees discussed educational research trends, challenges, and forecasts for implementing state-of-the-art technologies in the academic process. The topics included GenAI integration, using AI tutor neural networks to customize learning for each student, and the Metaverse as an innovative educational video game where avatars of students and teachers from around the world interact.
Tatyana Kravchenko and Vladislav Guza presented the concept of the learning process used in SM Lab when deploying information systems. They explained how e-courses are created for an international audience in different languages, considering local features. They also shared the advantages of the Russian LMS from iSpring, designed to manage distance learning courses and the VoxQube AI-based video dubbing service.
Vladislava notes: "We shared our expertise and unique experience. Beyond that, we impressed the audience with our bright, Russian-flavored presentation. Everybody will remember our matryoshka nested dolls".
The official language of the conference was English, as there were many speakers from countries other than China. Our visitors had a chance to practice their English and Chinese with native speakers.
Tatyana says: "The Chinese-speaking audience was pleasantly surprised when we first greeted them in their mother tongue. During the breaks, we had unofficial discussions in two languages. It was a very interesting experience".
Vladislava adds: "These are unbelievable emotions and impressions. This is my first international conference. I hope, not the last one!"
For several years, employees of the IP Localization and Implementation Support Service have been attendees and speakers at many Russian conferences (iSpring Days, Learning Elements, SM Lab Days, UIC Dev, SQA Days, Heisenbug, and Translation Forum Russia).
Speaking at an international conference in front of a multinational audience is a new milestone. Our visitors gained some unique experiences, got inspired by the professional community, learned about the new trends in education, and successfully presented themselves as corporate learning experts. This is undoubtedly a new level.
